xe-daemon spamming syslog?

  • Hi,

after upgrading to xenserver7 with guest utilities 7.0 I've got lots of:

    Nov 15 06:32:20 XXX xe-daemon: Running CollectMisc ...
    Nov 15 06:32:20 XXX xe-daemon: Running CollectNetworkAddr ...
    Nov 15 06:32:20 XXX xe-daemon: Running CollectDisk ...
    Nov 15 06:33:20 XXX xe-daemon: Running CollectOS ...

in syslog (Debian 8 ). This repeats every minute.
Does anyone know how to disable this logging in xe-daemon ?

  • I think this is used to populate XenServer metrics. IDK if there is a way to silence this output.

You should ask on IRC, you'll probably have an answer (#xenserver on FreeNode)

  • Putting the following lines in a file under /etc/rsyslog.d/ (mine is: /etc/rsyslog.d/100-xe-spam.conf)

    # Xen Client Spam
:msg, contains, "Running CollectOS ..." stop
:msg, contains, "Running CollectMisc ..." stop
:msg, contains, "Running CollectNetworkAddr ..." stop
:msg, contains, "Running CollectDisk ..." stop
:msg, contains, "Running CollectMemory ..." stop

Will prevent the message to occur inside the syslog.

  • We'll spotted @mk! I'll probably write a small blog post for this trick, I'll credit you 👍

    Thanks for another xenserver resource.
