Error creating vm from cloud template

  • As I said earlier, I don't see any error in the log. And again, I said:

Could you explain more when you said "cannot create VMs from Cloudinit templates"? Which step fails exactly?

Did you even read my posts?

  • @olivierlambert

it just shows the annoying vm creation failed message thats all, thats all that failed
are there anything else to see?

the vm won't boot on creation except i manually start and obviously nothing happens cloudinit wise

    so no errors here?

  • No I don't see anything special in the logs 😞

I don't get it, never had those problems, I can't even reproduce it myself.

We'll see if it's the same story with the coming 5.0

    On which browser are you?

  • google chrome
    does browser matter?

i mean its so frustrating, i mean knowing the steps are pretty straight forward and then it just doesnt work

  • Do you have the same issue with XOA?

    edit: which version of Chrome?

  • @olivierlambert

    chrome Version 50.0.2661.102 m
about to update to latest now and try again

XOA free version cannot do cloudinit, so no way to test

Ask the trial and try it out.

  • @olivierlambert

what is the path of templates on the server? here are templates stored?

  • Sorry I don't understand your question.

  • @olivierlambert
where are templates that are created stored?

  • this may be the culprit

    0_1465159721958_Screen Shot 2016-06-05 at 4.46.27 PM.png

but then this didn't happen to the 16.04 lts image and yet can't create vm from that either

  • Is the cloudinit disk is created despite the error? (does the VM as an extra disk?)

When you convert a VM into a template, it stays on the SR where your VM resides.

My question is where is the path to those images/hard disks?

i am almost about to give up on cloudinit to be honest
i wish it is one of those things that just works, but unfortunately its not

i will just create regularly templates and just create vms from the template, i will be able to sleep more that way

    cloudinit is killing me slowly

  • @macaxenguy You should definitely take the time to learn how XenServer work 🙂

The template info are stored in XAPI database. The files (disks) are VDIs, so they are stored like any other VDI (so depends of your SRs type, lvm, lvmoiscsi, nfs etc.)

Also, you didn't answer my previous questions. If you want help, you need to read what other said, there is a reason for that. It's not very pleasant to spend time to help you and hile you don't try to answer simple questions.

    • Do you see the extra cloud config disk created in the VM?
    • Did you try to reproduce your issue on the XOA trial?

  • ok i have tried activating the free trial of premium version for XOA and its not working

    how do i do this?

i click try it for free and takes me to update page and my XOA is up to date and i have registered it

  • Can you make a screenshot of your update page?

  • @olivierlambert said:

i can email it to you privately, i already post too much stuff, trying to limit how much stuff i am putting publicly

  • @olivierlambert said:

by the way the centos7 and debian8 cloud images you providedon your blog works fine, but i have no idea why my cloud images are not working. I followed what you did for the debian image for the ubuntu ones and i mean its all checking the config drive thats pretty much it but not working

i usually run apt-get update -y && apt-get upgrade -y before setting up the cloud image, so maybe some package updates and upgrades are the ones causing this issue.
